Technology Scout
Identifying new solutions or missing capabilities to improve market outcomes
A technology scout is a phased project intended to identify existing and emerging technical solutions aimed at a specific client pain point.
In the initial phase, we first develop a high-level background and taxonomy of the space and conduct a broad review of targeted solutions and alternative methods. We use the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) scale to estimate additional development required. The goal at this stage is NOT to provide a comprehensive list of all existing solutions but to create high-level briefs within each potential solution category to further narrow search criteria for phase 2.
In phase 2, we develop deeper research on client-selected categories and/or specific technologies of interest, and augment with additional ideas, products, and services in these areas. Using critical parameters and search terms identified in phase 1, we conduct targeted research to answer specific client questions and supplement initial results with additional new ideas.
Phase 3 focuses on only the most interesting products and processes identified in the first two phases. In this phase, we contact and interview subject matter experts and company contacts, where relevant. By this point, technology background is well known and highly specific and educated questions quickly highlight the most promising path to execution.
Need a new component or process to fully leverage your existing strengths? Let’s discuss.
